Lupin gets USFDA approval for Pitavastatin tablets

Pharmaceutical major Lupin on Friday said it has received tentative approval for its cholesterol lowering Pitavastatin tablets from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). 

"Pharma Major Lupin announced today that it has received tentative approval for its Pitavastatin tablets, 1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market a generic version of Kowa Company Limited's (Kowa) Livalo Tablets 1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg," the pharmaceutical company said in a regulatory filing to the BSE. 

"Pitavastatin tablets are indicated as an adjunctive therapy to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides and to increase HDL-C in adult patients with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia," it added.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS: SENSEX NIFTY ENDS HIGHER AFTER A VOLATILE SESSION

 

The market has ended in green after a lot of volatility due to December Future & Options (F&O) expiry today. The Nifty was up 68.75 points or 0.9 percent at 8103.60 and the Sensex climbed 155.47 points or 0.6 percent at 26366.15.

About 1651 shares have advanced, 929 shares declined, and 171 shares are unchanged. Auto, metals and IT stocks lend support.

Maruti, HDFC, Tata Motors, TCS and Bharti were gainers while Adani Ports, Infosys, Sun Pharma, L&T and BHEL were losers in the Sensex.

Wall Street rises, Dow racks up seventh straight weekly gain

Wall Street ended the week on a positive note on Friday as investors doubled down on a rally fuelled by optimism that President-elect Donald Trump's policies will boost economic growth.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which briefly came within striking distance of the historic 20,000 level earlier this week, recorded its seventh straight weekly gain.

Following a rally since the November 8 US election, the Dow is up about 14 percent for the year and the S&P 500 is 11 percent higher on bets that the economy will benefit from Trump's plans for deregulation and infrastructure spending.

After spending much of the day with a marginal loss, the Dow ended Friday 0.07 percent higher on the day, at 19,933.81 points. The S&P 500 gained 0.13 percent to 2,263.79. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.28 percent to 5,462.69.

For the week, the Dow rose 0.5 percent, the S&P 500 added 0.2 percent, and the Nasdaq climbed 0.5 percent.

The health index rose 0.78 percent on Friday, boosted by a 2.6 percent gain in Allergan .

The S&P 500 consumer discretionary index slipped 0.24 percent, weighed by a 0.75 percent dip in Amazon.com .

Economic data showed new single-family home sales rose to their highest level in four months in November, increasing 5.2 percent to 592,000 last month.

Fred's rose 4.2 percent after Alden Global Capital reported a stake of 24.8 percent in the discount store operator.
Cintas fell 3.1 percent after the uniforms supplier cut the lower end of its revenue forecast.

INDIAN EQUITY MARKET OUTLOOK - 23 DEC 2016

Market to lower on weak global cues;

Indian Indices:

The Indian equity market opened lower on Friday weighed by weak global cues ahead of Christmas holiday.

Equity benchmarks started off Friday's trade on a negative note amid consolidation and low volumes, weighed by weak global cues ahead of Christmas holiday.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.05% at 11,803, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.15% at 11,784.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 30.86 points to 25948.74 and the 50-share NSE Nifty declined 8.35 points to 7970.75.

Global Market:

Asian shares were in the red today with little Christmas cheer expected in thin holiday trade after the Dow Jones index again fell short of the 20,000 mark. Asian indices opened in the red with week end blues seeing caution ahead of the holiday shortened next week.

Euro zone inflation could exceed 1 pc; the highest level since 2013, according to The European Central Bank.

US indices drifted lower as the 20000 mark still seems within reach even as US GDP growth recorded strong growth coming @ 3.5%.

Oil drops to session’s lows as crude stocks rise by 2.3M barrels: - Oil prices declined on Wednesday, falling to the lowest levels of the session after data showed a surprise increase in U.S. crude supplies last week. The U.S. Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report that crude oil inventories rose by 2.3 million barrels in the week ended December 16. Market analysts' expected a crude-stock drop of 2.5 million barrels, while the American Petroleum Institute late Tuesday reported  a supply fall of 4.1 million barrels.U.S. natural gas spikes 5% on bets for massive supply withdrawal: - U.S. natural gas futures snapped a five-session losing streak on Wednesday, as investors bid up prices on expectations of a massive U.S. inventory draw. Market participants awaited weekly supply data due on Thursday, which is expected to show a draw in a range between 197 and 210 billion cubic feet in the week ended December 16.

Benchmark indices fell for the sixth consecutive session with the Sensex losing 65.60 points to 26242.38. The Nifty managed to hold 8050 level, falling 21.10 points to 8061.30.
