MARKET WRAP UP 07-JAN-2019


Closing Bell: Equity benchmarks have ended the day on a positive note, though off their high points. The Nifty closed below 10,800-mark.
All, but three, sectors ended the session on a green note. Metals, pharmaceuticals as well as PSU banks ended the day in the red. The Nifty Midcap index closed around flat line. 
At the close of market hours, the Sensex was up 155.06 points or 0.43% at 35850.16, while the Nifty was higher by 44.40 points or 0.41% at 10771.80. The market breadth was negative as 1292 shares advanced, against a decline of 1310 shares, while 172 shares were unchanged.
Axis Bank, Tata Motors, and Bharti Infratel gained the most, while Bajaj Auto, Yes Bank, and Indiabulls Housing were the top losers.



HEADLINES OF THE DAY

Tata Motors is in focus as its JLR UK sales have grown 7 percent at 6,625 units against 6,195 units last year.  Essar Global has repaid Rs 6300 crore to ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and StanChart
The rupee has erased most of its morning gains and is trading at 69.69 per US dollar. 
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), having changed management last month following a clash with the government, is likely to transfer an interim dividend of 300-400 billion rupees ($4.32 billion-$5.8 billion) to the government by March, according to three sources with direct knowledge of the matter.
Tata Consultancy Services has acquired select company assets of BridgePoint Group.

The crucial resistance for Nifty spot is now seen at 10840 and above this 10960 Support for the immediate term is now placed at 10660 next support will be 10530.

Jet Airways plans to secure debt using revenue from ticket sales

Shares of debt-ridden airline company Jet Airways dropped 3% on Friday after an Economic Times report suggested that the company is planning to utilize its revenue from ticket sales to secure its debt.
As per the report, the company will use part of the money from advance sales of tickets that would go to an escrow account, which further can be accessed by banks against debt. Additionally, the company is also said to have approached the upper echelons of officials earlier this week in pursuit of a rescue by state-run banks.
Torrent Power appointed as distribution franchisee for Thane circle
Torrent Power Limited (TPL) has emerged as the winner of the competitive bidding process conducted by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).
The power company has been appointed as an input-based distribution franchisee for the distribution of electricity in Shil, Mumbra, & Kalwa sub-divisions under the Thane Urban Circle for a period of 20 years. The company announced the news via a press release on Thursday afternoon.


NHPC completes shutdown of Parbati-III power station

NHPC, in its filing to the exchanges, informed that the company has completed the shutdown of its Parbati-111 (520 MW) Power Station in Himachal Pradesh.

"The shutdown will cause tentative loss of 35.1MUs in the production of electricity and 6.5% in PAF," the company said in a press note on Thursday after market hours to the exchanges. NHPC further informed that the tentative financial on the interim order determined by Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is Rs24.04cr, while on final tariff determination by CERC is Rs30.14cr.


CESC wins power distribution franchisee in Malegaon


Power generation and distribution company CESC announced that it has emerged as the lowest bidder for the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd letter of intent (LoI) to distribute power in Maharashtra's Malegaon circle.
We have been declared as the successful bidder for appointment as distribution franchisee in respect of Malegaon municipal corporation area under Malegaon circle in the state of Maharashtra, CESC said in a statement to the exchanges after-market hours on Thursday.


Sun Pharma completes acquisition of Pola Pharma of Japan

Sun Pharma said that it has completed the acquisition of Pola Pharma Inc., Japan. The announcement was made after market hours today.
Sun Pharma has completed all the necessary formalities, the acquisition of 100% shares of Pola Pharma Inc., Japan, via the company's wholly owned subsidiary, the company's BSE filing stated.

MARKET WRAP UP 04-JAN-2019


Closing Bell: Sensex ends the week with a gain of 181 pts, Nifty above 10,700.

Buying counters were buzzing in the last couple of hours for the market, helping them not only recover from low points, but also end the week on a strong note.
Except IT names, investors bought across sectors, with maximum gains seen among metals, energy and banks, among others. The Nifty Midcap index ended higher too. 
At the close of market hours, the Sensex was up 181.39 points or 0.51% at 35695.10, and the Nifty up 55.10 points or 0.52% at 10727.40. The market breadth was narrow as 1322 shares have advanced, against a decline of 1255 shares, and 159 shares are unchanged.
Yes Bank, Vedanta, and Bharti Infratel gained the most, while Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech and Tech Mahindra were the top losers.

Chinese Central Bank cut bank's reserve requirement ratio by 100 bps.
European shares traded higher following news that the US and China will hold trade talks next week.

RBI's deadline for Kotak promoter stake dilution today

Shares of Kotak Bank ended ~1% higher on Monday with the Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) deadline to reduce promoter stake in the bank being today. As per the central bank's guidelines for new banks, Kotak Mahindra Bank was required to bring down promoter holding to 20% by December 31, 2018. Besides, the RBI requires the shareholding to fall to 15% by 2020 to reduce the promoters control over the bank, media reports said.

Marico slips on report Govt hikes MSP for Copra

Shares of Marico are trading lower by 1% on the BSE in the last hour of trading session amid media reports that the Cabinet has approved a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for Copra by more than Rs2,000 per quintal for the 2019 season. The stock is among the top losers on the BSE FMCG index.
The cabinet increased the MSP for copra, which accounts for 40-50% of Marico's material costs, by Rs2,000 per quintal for 2019. The MSP of Copra has been increased from Rs7,511 per quintal to Rs9,521, reports added.

BHEL wins Rs3,500cr order for 660MW thermal power plant

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a major order for setting up a 660MW supercritical thermal power plant in West Bengal valued at ~Rs3,500cr. The order for setting up the 1x660MW Sagardighi Thermal Power Project Extension Unit-5 at Manigram village in Murshidabad district of West Bengal has been placed on BHEL by West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL).

Cadila Healthcare gains 1% as USFDA grants approval for Acne Gel

Shares of Cadila Healthcare were trading 1% higher on Monday as the company received approval from the USFDA to market Clindamycin Phosphate and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel.
The combination medication is used to treat a certain type of acne (inflammatory acne vulgaris), the company said in a press note to the exchanges on Saturday. Cadila will manufacture this gel at the groups topical manufacturing facility at Ahmedabad.

Reliance Industries acquires Kanoda energy systems

Investments and Holdings Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries, has entered into a binding agreement with Kanoda Energy Systems Private Limited ("KESL") for the acquisition of equity shares for a cash consideration not exceeding Rs75cr.
The said investment upon completion will translate into 88% equity stake in KESL on a fully diluted basis. The complete acquisition is likely to be completed by March 2020.
The investment will assist in the Reliance's initiatives to use renewable energy sources.

L&T Construction wins orders worth Rs2,084cr

The construction arm of L&T has won orders worth Rs2,084cr.
The Power Transmission and Distribution Business of L&T Construction has secured EPC orders worth Rs2,084cr, as per BSE filing. On the international front, the business has won a major order in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the construction of 115kV Substations with associated transmission lines and cable circuits, the filing added.

Another order for 132kV cable works for a Substation has also been awarded in Dubai, UAE.
