Asian markets are higher today as Japanese and Hong Kong shares show gains. The Nikkei 225 is up 0.80% while the Hang Seng is up 0.21%. The Shanghai Composite is not trading.
 US Markets: Asian stocks mixed as US-China trade talks continue.
 European markets: European markets finished lower today with shares in London leading the region. The FTSE 100 is down 0.39% while France's CAC 40 is off 0.38% and Germany's DAX is lower by 0.18%.

The market is facing significant resistance around 11,000 on the Nifty, and is likely to consolidate in a 500-point range between 10,500 and 11,000, says Udayan Mukherjee.

M&M stock tanks nearly 4% as December volume growth drags

M&M stock tanks nearly 4% as December volume growth dragsMahindra and Mahindra Limited (M&M) reported total volume growth of 1% yoy (down 12% mom) in December 2018. It sold 39,755 units (domestic + exports) in December 2018 against 39,200 units in December 2017 and 45,101 units in November 2018. Total volumes missed BloombergQuint poll estimate of 44,500 units. Domestic volumes were down 1% yoy (down 12% mom) at 36,690 units, while exports were up 38% yoy (down 13% mom) at 3,065 units.
Commercial vehicles (CV) and Passenger vehicles (PV), which contribute 80% to total volumes, declined 3% yoy and 4% yoy respectively. The 3% yoy decline in PV sales and more specifically 4% yoy decline in SUV sales was despite the launch of Alturas G4 (SUV) in November 2018. 

Ashoka Buildcons arm to receive annuity payment from KRDCL

Ashoka Buildcon in its filing to the exchanges on Tuesday informed that its subsidiary Ashoka Bagewadi Saundatti Road Limited is entitled to receive annuity amount from Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) as the arm executed Commercial Operation Date (CoD) of its Hybrid Annuity Mode project. 
Accordingly, the company's subsidiary is eligible for receipt of annuity payment from KRDCL within six months from the date of achievement of COD i.e. six months from October 01, 2018, the company said in a press note.

Escorts reports 28% yoy growth in tractor sales in December; stock up 1%

Escorts Limited (Escorts), one of Indias leading agricultural equipment manufacturers, reported strong volume numbers in December 2018. It sold 4,598 tractors in December 2018.
Total volumes for the month were higher 28% yoy and lower 43% mom. The company sold 4,212 tractors in the domestic market in December 2018, up 21% yoy and down 45% mom. Export volume was 386, up 197% yoy and 6% mom. For the quarter (Q3FY19), the company sold 25,743 tractors, up 36% yoy and 22% qoq.

UCO Bank gets Rs3,076cr capital infusion from govt; stock surges 10%

Shares of UCO Bank rallied 10% on the BSE in morning trade. The bank said the central government has infused Rs3,076cr of capital into it by way of preferential allotment. The government "has conveyed its decision to invest Rs3,074cr in the equity of the Bank by way of preferential allotment and Bank has received the amount on Monday," the bank said in a BSE filing.

The government cut subsidized LPG rates by Rs5.91

The government has announced a reduction in both subsidized and non-subsidized LPG rates by Rs5.91 and Rs120.50, respectively. This is the second straight reduction in December month. With this, from midnight on Monday, a 14.2kg subsidized LPG cylinder will cost Rs494.99 in Delhi, while non-subsidized LPG will now cost Rs689/14.2kg in Delhi, the government data showed. The government on December 01, 2018 had trimmed subsidized LPG price by Rs6.52/cylinder, while non-subsidized LPG rate was cut by Rs133. The decision has probably been taken due to a fall in the price of LPG in the international market and appreciation in the rupee.

MARKET WRAP UP 28-DEC-2018



Closing Bell: Nifty kicks off January series above 10,850; Sensex up 269 pts; Nifty Pharma surges.

Its a consecutive session of positive close for the market on Friday. The Nifty has kicked off January series on a strong note, ending above 10,850-mark. 
Strong global cues, weaker crude as well as strengthening rupee were some of the primary factors behind the markets rally.  At the close of market hours, the Sensex was up 269.44 points or 0.75% at 36076.72, while the Nifty was higher by 80.10 points or 0.74% at 10859.90. The market breadth was narrow as 1546 shares advanced, against a decline of 1049 shares, while 163 shares were unchanged. Sun Pharma, Vedanta, and Titan were the top gainers, while Coal India, TCS, and Bharti Infratel lost the most.


HEADLINES OF THE DAY

Multiplex chain operator PVR said it is planning to raise up to Rs 750 crore through issue of securities to qualified institutional buyers, for which it is seeking shareholders' nod.
Tata Steel BSL (earlier known as Bhushan Steel) shares rallied nearly 7 per cent intraday after CARE assigned AA rating for company's bank facilities.
Shree Cement gained half a per cent after CARE reaffirmed its rating as A1+ for company's commercial paper worth Rs 600 crore. Kansai Nerolac Paints shares gained a per cent intraday after the acquisition of construction chemical company.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that 11 PSU banks have identified 55 foreign operations for rationalization and closure in this fiscal, according to a CNBC-TV18 report. HDFC Bank shares gained 1.5 per cent in the morning after research house Emkay has maintained its buy call on the stock and expects to gain 18 per cent to its price target to Rs 2,500 apiece.


The crucial resistance for Nifty spot is now seen at 10960 and above this 11100 Support for the immediate term is now placed at 10720 next support will be 10550.

Dr.Reddy's launches Sevelamer Carbonate in US

Dr.Reddys Laboratories, in a filing to the exchanges on Thursday, informed that the company has launched Sevelamer Carbonate oral suspension in the US market.
"Dr.Reddy's Sevelamer Carbonate oral suspension is available in 0.8g and 2.4g packets in a count size of 90," the company added in a press note. "It is a therapeutic-equivalent/generic version of Renvela (sevelamer carbonate) but is an oral suspension that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA)," the release added.

Suven Life Sciences secures product patents in Brazil and Eurasia

Suven Life Sciences Ltd said today that it has been granted a product patent from Brazil and Eurasia each for a new chemical entity used in the treatment of disorders associated with Neurodegenerative diseases. L&T Construction wins contracts worth Rs2,357cr
Shares of Larsen and Toubro Ltd were trading flat on Thursday afternoon even as the company announced contract wins worth Rs2,357cr. The water and effluent treatment and transportation infrastructure businesses of Larsen and Toubro Ltd have secured a build and design order worth Rs1,281cr.
The scope of the contract includes investigation, designing and construction of roads, bridges, stormwater drains, culverts, water supply systems, sewerage systems, STP, utility ducts for power and ICT, reuse waterlines and avenue plantation. These should be compatible with trunk infrastructure in layouts for land pooling schemes for the villages of Kurunegala, Nidamarru in Zone 12A area at Amravati Capital City, Andhra Pradesh. This order is in continuation of the orders received earlier at Amravati Capital City, Andhra Pradesh.

Sun Pharma unit gets preliminary injunctive relief in US Court

DUSA Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries announced that it has been granted preliminary injunctive relief by a federal district court prohibiting defendants Biofrontera Inc., Biofrontera Bioscience GmbH, Biofrontera Pharma GmbH, and Biofrontera AG (together known as Biofrontera) from using DUSA confidential and proprietary trade secret information.

The announcement made after market hours on Wednesday.
DUSA had filed a lawsuit against the Biofrontera defendants earlier this year in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. The lawsuit alleges trade secret misappropriation and patent infringement of DUSA photodynamic therapy (PDT) patents, US 9,723,991 and US 8,216,289, covering DUSA product, LEVULAN KERASTICK (aminolevulinic acid HCl) for a topical solution, 20% used with DUSA BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator.

Bajaj Auto to enter e-vehicles space by 2020

Bajaj Auto is looking to enter the electric vehicle space by 2020 with two and three-wheeler products, said Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of the company. Bajaj added that the company is aiming at 20-25% market share going forward from its current 15-20% share over the next 12 months. When asked if the next few months look difficult because of the global environment, he answered that the scenario, in fact, looked interesting and exciting on back of some interesting trends that are emerging.

Nifty likely to open flat 12-DEC-2018




Indian Indices: Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a negative opening for the broader index in India, a fall of 23.5 points or 0.22 percent. Nifty futures were trading around 10,576-level on the Singaporean Exchange.

  Asian markets: Asian markets are higher today as Japanese and Hong Kong shares show gains. The Nikkei 225 is up 1.88% while the Hang Seng is up 1.39%. The Shanghai Composite is not trading.
  US Markets: Dow closes lower after swinging more than 500 points in another volatile session.
  European markets: European markets closed sharply higher today with shares in Germany leading the region. The DAX is up 1.49% while France's CAC 40 is up 1.35% and London's FTSE 100 is up 1.27%.

HUL's food & refreshment biz to get a 'boost' as board approves GSK Consumer merger deal
The board of Hindustan Unilever (HUL) has approved the scheme of amalgamating the company and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare Ltd (GSKCH), subject to further approvals.
The transaction is an all-equity merger with 4.39 shares of HUL being allotted for every share in GSKCH, implying a total equity value of Rs31, 700cr for 100% of the latter. This merger includes the totality of operations within GSKCH, including the selling contract to distribute GSKCH’s OTC and Oral Health products (Crocin, Eno, and Sensodyne) in India.

L&T Construction bags orders worth Rs1,127cr;
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said its construction arm has won orders worth Rs1,127cr across two of its business segments.
In the metallurgical and material handling business, the company bagged contracts worth Rs755cr, the company said in the filing.
An order has been secured from Hindustan Zinc Ltd for the construction of a 1.5 MTPA Lead Zinc Beneficiation Plant at R D Mines, Rajasthan, thereby continuing to build customer confidence and leadership position in this segment, the company added.

RCom spurts 15% after subsidiary clears payment of corporate guarantee to DoT
Shares of Reliance Communications were trading 15% higher on Monday after a media report said that the company’s arm Reliance Realty has a cleared Rs1, 400cr corporate guarantee to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in line with the Supreme Court (SC) directive.
The completion of the payment paves the way for Reliance Communication’s pending spectrum sales to Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio, an ET report said. On Friday, the SC has asked the DoT to clear the company's spectrum sale to Reliance Jio Infocomm on a corporate guarantee of Rs1, 400cr.

Ashok Leyland stock tanks nearly 5% as November volumes disappoint
Ashok Leyland Limited (ALL) reported 9% yoy volume decline (13% mom volume decline) for the month of November 2018. Total sales were 13,121 units in November 2018 vs. 14,457 units in November 2017 and 15,149 units in October 2018. The volume number missed BloombergQuint poll estimate of 14,000 units for October 2018. The volume decline came on a strong base of November 2017 (volume growth of 51% yoy, 12% mom). The stock is trading nearly 5% lower at the lowest point of the day so far.

Sun Pharma dives 7% on report of likely re-opening of insider trading case
Shares of Sun Pharma plummeted 7% in Monday’s morning session after a media report said that the Securities Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is likely to re-open an insider trading case against the company.
As per a PTI report, the update comes after the market regulator received an application that claims various irregularities by the company, its promoter Dilip Shanghvi, and others. The managing director of the company Dilip Shanghvi and nine other entities, in August 2017, settled an insider trading probe on payment of Rs18 lakh towards settlement charges.
