Tamil Nadu govt moves SC for the closure of Vedanta Tuticorin unit: Media reports
Shares of Vedanta slipped 4% on Wednesday after media reports said that the Tamil Nadu (TN) government moved the Supreme Court against the order of National Green Tribunal (NGT) allowing the company to re-open Sterlite's Tuticorin unit. On December 15, NGT had trashed the state governments order for closure of the plant citing non-sustainable and unjustified as a reason. The plant was at the centre of massive protests over alleged pollution.
TVS Motor misses volume expectations due to a slowdown in motorcycle and scooter sales
TVS Motor Company Limited (TVSM) reported lower-than-expected volume numbers in December 2018, missing consensus expectation. Total volume was up 6% yoy (down 15% mom) in December 2018. This was the slowest monthly yoy growth rate since October 2017. The company sold 2,71,395 vehicles in December 2018, against 2,56,870 vehicles in December 2017 and 3,19,965 vehicles in November 2018. Total volume missed BloombergQuint poll estimate of 2,91,000 vehicles. Three wheelers (3W) volumes continued to gallop, growing 37% yoy (down 1% mom) in December 2018. However, all three sub-segments of two-wheelers (2W) witnessed a slowdown. Scooter volume was up 9% yoy (down 18% mom), while motorcycle volume was up 13% yoy (down 11% mom). These were multi-month low growth rates for these sub-segments. Moped sales declined 13% yoy (down 20% mom). TVSM fared better than Hero MotoCorp (HMCL), which saw 4% yoy (26% mom) decline in 2W December volumes. Bajaj Auto (BJAUT) was clearly an outlier, with 2W volumes up 31% yoy (down 14% mom).
Jet Airways defaults on debt payment to banks
Shares of Jet Airways were down 2% in late morning trade on Wednesday as the debt-ridden airline company delayed the payment to a consortium of Indian banks led by the State Bank of India (SBI). "The payment has been delayed due to temporary cash flows mismatch and the company has engaged with the banks in relation to the same," the airline company said in a press note aftermarket hours to the exchanges on Tuesday.
Power Grid arm announces transmission system project Vindhyachal-V
PowerGrid Jabalpur Transmission Limited, a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, has successfully commissioned transmission system strengthening associated with Vindhyachal-V.
The company made the announcement on Tuesday evening, post market hours. The project includes establishment of Vindhyachal pooling station - Jabalpur pooling station 765kV double circuit transmission line on a build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) basis.
LIC Housing Chairman V.K. Sharma resigns
LIC Housing Finance said that V.K. Sharma has resigned as Chairman of the company from December 31, 2018, after superannuation from the services of LIC. I shall be laying down office as Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India today. I, therefore, tender my resignation from the Board of Directors of the Company with immediate effect. I take this opportunity to thank you and Members of the Board for all the kindness and consideration shown to me during my tenure on the board, the company said in a regulatory filing.

The company stated it is in the process of appointing the next CFO.
Fortis Healthcare's board approved the extension of the long stop date under the Master Purchase Agreement to March 26. The company and its arm had entered into the agreement to purchase Indian Entities of RHT Trust under this agreement in Nov. 2017. On Dec. 28, statutory auditors Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP had resigned.
Jindal Steel & Power's current CEO Naushad Akhter Ansari became the joint MD of the company with effect from Jan. 1.
KEC International and Adani Transmission mutually agreed to extend the date of sale to Jan. 31. They entered into this agreement on Nov. 3 in which KEC International was to sell its entire stake in KEC Bikaner Sikar Transmission Private Limited to Adani groups transmission arm.
Allahabad Bank revised MCLR by 10 basis points across various tenors. Overnight MCLR at 8.25 percent and One Year MCLR at 8.75 percent. credit access Grameen said it has completed a direct assignment of Rs 277.73 crore and securitization transaction of Rs 110.5 crore. Shriram Transport Finance would consider raising fund via debt during the month of January.

Marico: Minimum Support Price for Copra has been hiked by over Rs 2,000 per quintal for 2019 season by CCEA. The MSP of Copra has been increased from Rs 7,511 per quintal to Rs 9,521 per quintal. (Bloomberg News-All India Radio) IDBI Bank allotted 239 crore shares via preferential issue to LIC at a price of Rs 60.73 per share aggregating to Rs 14,500 crores in tranche 1. This exercise is the part of ongoing acquisition of 51 percent controlling stake by LIC in IDBI Bank. Aavas Financiers received fresh refinance assistance of Rs 500 crore from National Housing Bank. The company says that this refinance will strengthen the liquidity position of the company and will provide a strong boost to retail home loan activities in semi-urban and rural areas. Power Grid Corporation entered into a loan agreement for 200 million euros with Germanys KfW for the financing of transmission project for integration of clean energy and system strengthening. Government conveyed its decision to invest Rs 5,500 crore in Oriental Bank of Commerce by way of preferential allotment. The meeting to consider this capital raise will be held on Jan. 2. JK Cement approved qualified institutional placement Issue price at Rs 695.8 per share which is at a discount of 5 per cent to the floor price of Rs 732.42.
credit access Grameen completed a direct assignment transaction of Rs 176.59 crore. The company says that with this transaction, the entity has completed five secularisation transactions and two direct assignment transaction amounting to Rs 909.70 crore in the financial year 2019. The financial services company also stated that the entire pool qualifies for priority sector treatment as per the Reserve Bank of Indias Priority Sector lending guidelines. Rane Holdings increased its stake in its arm Rane Madras Ltd. from 3.05 per cent to 61.64 per cent for a consideration of Rs 20 crore. Manali Petrochemicals clarified that there was no strike or lockout and no insurance cover based on notice received from the Pollution Control Board for the closure of Plant 1 on Dec. 25. The company also stated that quantum of loss would depend on the period of closure and the company has taken actions for an early restart to recoup the production loss.
Karnataka Bank raised its deposit interest rate by 10 basis points for domestic and NRE Rupee term deposits to 7.40 per cent with effect from Dec. 28. Government conveyed its decision to invest Rs 1,632 crore in Syndicate Bank by way of preferential allotment of equity shares. Piramal Enterprises said it was considering raising Rs 100 crore via NCDs on Jan.2. Central Bank of India's board approved raising Rs 200 crore via employee stock option.
Ashok Leyland changed its object clause in which the company will engage in the business of developing, manufacturing and selling light commercial vehicles up to 7.5-tonne gross vehicle weight, powertrain for LCVs, and spare parts in India and other countries. This change in object clause comes after NCLT approved the order of amalgamating its three arms with as on Dec. 17.
Omaxe clarified that the NCLT issuing contempt notice against its CMD Rohtas Goel was wrongly interpreted as the notice is related in Buildwell Builders Pvt. Ltd., where Rohtas Goel is the director as well as the shareholder. There is no effect on the operations or the performance from the above news as stated by the company.

Sun Pharma arm Dusa Pharmaceuticals got awarded Preliminary Injunctive Relief by U.S. federal district court prohibiting defendants Biofrontera from using Dusas proprietary trade secret information. Earlier this year, the Sun Pharma arm filed a lawsuit against Biofrontera alleging trade secret misappropriation and patent infringement of the company's photodynamic therapy patients and Levulan Kerastick drug.
Hindustan Unilever clarified on the news of GST Authority finding guilty of profiteering Rs 383 crore stating that no methodology has been determined by National Anti-Profiteering Authority as required under the law to determine if the benefit has been passed or not. HUL will consider legal options available to it. On Dec. 24 the anti-profiteering authority ruled passed on order against the company to deposit Rs 223 crore.
Man Industries: Securities and Exchange Board of India imposed Rs 10 crore fine on 3 promoters of the company for failing to make an open offer to the company's shareholders. The regulators conducted a probe in the shareholding of the company from June to September in the year 2010, while observing that shareholding of the promoters increased from 51.29 per cent to 55.18 per cent. Under the SEBI regulations, it is mandatory to make an open offer if the promoters shareholding crosses the threshold limit of 55 per cent.
NTPC Limited: Investment approval has been accorded for Bilhaur Solar Project of 140 MW capacity and Auraiya Solar Project of 20 MW capacity. Previously on Oct. 11, the company had won 160 MW solar capacities in Uttar Pradesh Energy Agency's Solar Tender. Entertainment Network (India) clarified that terrestrial broadcasting was disrupted for only 30 hours due to fire in its Mumbai Common Transmission Infrastructure and the amount of damage is not significant and the equipment of the company at this common infrastructure is already insured.
Cimmcos promoter Titagarh Wagons to sell 15.4 lakh shares (5.64 per cent equity) today and tomorrow through an offer for sale route. The floor price for OFS set at Rs 38 per share, a discount of 11 per cent to the last regular trade.

InterGlobe Aviation signed codeshare mutual agreement with Turkish Airlines. The aviation company said this agreement is a part of its international expansion strategy. Through this cooperation, Turkish Airlines will be offering new destinations in India as a marketing carrier on lndiGo operated flights, while the median carrier customers will be able to reach many European destinations through Turkish Airlines' network.
Hero MotoCorp: Cut to Sell from Neutral at Goldman Sachs. Price target lowered to Rs 2,773 from Rs 3,175, implying a 17 per cent downside from Friday close.
Entertainment Network (India) board approved the company foray into U.S. Markets. The proposed thrust for expansion will involve incorporation of arms in U.S. to enter into time brokerage arrangements to broadcast radio programs and content targeting the South Asian Community.
Fortis Healthcare: SEBI orders Singh brothers and other eight group companies to repay Rs 403 crore to the company itself. The order also stated that the Singh brothers and above-mentioned entities to not dispose any assets or divert funds except for payment of the said order for meeting day to day expenses. The order added that Malvinder Mohan Singh and Shivinder Mohan Singh shall not associate themselves with the affairs of Fortis Healthcare and Fortis Hospitals in any manner whatsoever, till further directions.
Bandhan Bank clarified that the bank was unaware of the news that it is in talks with HDFC for control of Gruh Finance. The bank also stated that it is evaluating various opportunities and will not comment on market speculation.
Petronet LNG restructured its LNG pact with Qatar based LNG Supplier RasGas. The company had entered into a binding sale and purchase agreement with RasGas for the supply of an additional 1 MMTP A of LNG for onward sale to local, BPCL, GAIL and GSPC in December 2015. The company added that contract has been re-structured by having direct arrangement between the LNG supplier and the Indian entities with effect from Jan. 1.

Closing Bell: Sensex plunges nearly 700 pts, Nifty below 10,800 amid global weakness.
Benchmark indices fell sharply on Friday, tracking the sharp correction in global peers after the threat of a US government shutdown and of further hikes in US borrowing costs.
The 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 689.60 points or 1.89 percent to 35,742.07 and the 50-share NSE Nifty plunged 197.70 points or 1.81 percent to 10,754.
IOC, UPL, Adani Ports, Maruti Suzuki and Indiabulls Housing were top losers among Nifty50 stocks, which fell 3.5-4.5 percent.
HPCL, BPCL, Coal India and NTPC were only gainers, up 1-2 per cent.
About two shares declined for every share rising on the BSE.
Shriram Transport, Cummins, NBCC, Ramco Cements, CES, L&T Finance Holdings, Manappuram Finance, Bharat Forge, MRPL, Karnataka Bank, Federal Bank, IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank and Yes Bank were down 1-5 percent.

Dr Reddys Laboratories: Aquestive and Indivior said they would file a petition with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit for hearing on the ruling to vacate the preliminary injunction that enjoined Dr. Reddys from launching its generic buprenorphine/naloxone sublingual film.
Punjab National Bank: CRISIL downgraded the ratings on various bonds of PNB to CRISIL AA+/CRISIL AA- from CRISIL AAA/CRISIL AA. Bharti Airtel board approved the sale of up to 59.12 crore equity shares, representing 32 per cent stake of Bharti Infratel owned by the company to its arm Nettle Infrastructure Investments. After the deal, Bharti Airtel will own 18.33 per cent stake in its Infratel arm and Nettle Infrastructure Investments and the public will hold 35.18 per cent and 46.49 per cent, respectively. Infosys appointed Nilanjan Roy as company Chief Financial Officer with effect from March 1 2019, while Jayesh Sanghrajka will be the deputy CFO, from the same date. The tech company arm and Qatar National Bank also announced the implementation of digital banking solutions for the bank. NHPC said 520 MW power station in Himachal Pradesh would be under complete shutdown from three months with effect from Dec. 20 for repair and maintenance work. Bosch said it will close Karnataka Bidadi Plant from Dec. 28-29 due to a reduction in volumes seen, as a result of a decline in the customerâ requirement. JSW Steel said it would infuse Rs 63.5 crore in Vardhaman Industries to pay the creditors as per the Resolution Plan by NCLT. The entire shareholding of Vardhaman Industries will be reduced by way of capital reduction and it will be delisted. Artemis Global Lifesciences received NCLT direction to conduct meetings with shareholder and creditors on Jan. 27 for the amalgamation of the company and its three arms.
CARE Ratings received the SEBI notice for the conduct of adjudication proceedings in relation to credit ratings assigned to Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd. and one of its subsidiaries.
