INDIAN EQUITY MARKET WRAP UP - 30 SEP 2016

INDIAN BENCHMARKS: SENSEX UP 39 POINTS AT 27866, NIFTY CLOSED IN GREEN BY 20 POINT

It was a quiet start to the October series as short covering helped benchmark indices close marginally higher amid consolidation Friday but the broader markets showed spectacular performance despite correction in global peers. In previous session, equity benchmarks and broader markets had fallen 1.6-4 percent on profit booking due to elevated geopolitical tensions at India-Pakistan border.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 38.43 points at 27865.96 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 19.90 points to 8611.15 while the BSE Midcap and Small cap indices surged 2 percent each on strong market breadth.

About 2060 shares advanced against 637 declining shares on the exchange.

ING sells 2.5% stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank

ING has offloaded 2.5% stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank for an estimated Rs3,653 crore through an open market transaction as per report.

ING Mauritius Investments, the investment arm of the Dutch bank, sold a total of 4.67 crore shares, representing Kotak Mahindra Bank’s 2.5% stake, according to bulk deal data available with the stock exchanges.

The shares were purchased on an average price of Rs782.32, valuing the transaction at Rs3, 653.43 crore.

Lovable Lingerie gains as promoters look to sell 15-20% stake

Shares of Lovable Lingerie gained 2% to Rs263.15 on NSE in an otherwise weak market on back of reports that the promoters are looking to sell 15-20% stake at 20% premium to private equity investors.

This is sentimentally positive for the company (though not confirmed officially).

Zee Entertainment forays into international radio broadcasting

ZEEL announced its foray into radio broadcasting space with the acquisition of UAE-based radio station ‘Hum 106.2’. ZEEL already operates satellite television channels like Zee Aflam and Zee Alwan in the UAE market.

Hum 106.2 is a UAE-based Hindi FM radio channel with a current market share of 26%. This move comes immediately after ZEEL forayed into film production and distribution in the UAE and middle-east markets.

Alkem Laboratories gets USFDA observations on Daman plant

Alkem Laboratories has received 13 observations from the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) after the regulator inspected its manufacturing facility at Daman.The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) had conducted an inspection at the company’s manufacturing facility located at Daman from September 20 to September 29, 2016.

HCL Tech and IBM enter 15-year partnership

During Q1FY2017 results press release, the company announced a long–term strategic IP partnership with a global technology major. In today’s press release, HCL Tech has shared further details of this IP Partnership. HCL Tech disclosed that it has entered into a 15-year partnership with IBM for Automation and DevOps solutions.

Nifty hovers around 8600, Sensex flat; BHEL, SBI, Infosys gain

After a firm start of the October Futures and Options (F&O) series, the market has started to wobble. The Sensex is down 27.19 points or 0.1 percent at 27800.34, and the Nifty is down 8.25 points or 0.1 percent at 8583.00. About 1382 shares have advanced, 543 shares declined, and 97 shares are unchanged.

GAIL, Infosys, Wipro, BHEL and ONGC are top gainers while Adani Ports, Cipla, Bharti AIrtel, Dr Reddy's Labs and HUL are major losers in the Sensex.

The Finance Ministry has exuded confidence that currency and stock markets, which tumbled following the surgical strike, will stabilise in the next few days and decisive action against terrorism will spur growth.

"The markets including the currency markets, the stock market they will stabilise in a matter of a very very few days," Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das.

Oil prices dropped on profit-taking, after rising 7 percent in the past two sessions, amid doubts that OPEC's first planned output cut in eight years would make a substantial dent in the global crude glut.

Both Brent and NYMEX crude are on course for a weekly gain of around 7 percent.

Cabinet clears stake acquisition in Rosneft assets by BPCL, IOC & OIL worth $3.14 bn

The Cabinet today gave its nod to a consortium of IOC, Oil India and BPCL buying stakes in two Russian oilfields for a total of $3.14 billion.

Indian Oil Corp, Oil India and a unit of Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) will buy 29.9 per cent stake in Taas-Yuryakh oilfield in East Siberia for USD 1.12 billion and another 23.9 per cent in Vankor oilfield for $2.02 billion.

Max India receives shareholders' approval for merger

Max India has received shareholders' approval for merger of Max Life Insurance Company with Max Financial Services and also for the demerger of insurance business for transfer to HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company.

OBC plans to raise fund via bonds

State-owned lender Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) said that it will raise Rs500 crore on private placement by issuing Basel III compliant additional Tier 1 bonds.

The bank intends to raise Tier 1 capital through private placement of Basel III compliant additional tier 1 bonds of Rs10,00,000 each at par aggregating to Rs500 crore.

The proposed bonds issue has been rated as 'A+' by CARE Ratings and 'A+ (Hyb.) with negative outlook' by ICRA

Delta Corp may buy rummy website ace2three.com for $80-100 million

Delta Corp may buy rummy website ace2three.com for $80-100 million (Rs530-660crore) – positive read through for the stock

Delta Corp is in exploratory talks to buy out a rummy website ace2three.com for approximately $80-100 mn. Delta Corp on its part is keen to structure the buyout via conversion instruments, whereas ace2three.com might insist on a cash component.

The deal talks between both sides are still at an exploratory stage, but sources say both companies would like to announce the proposed transaction by mid-October. Last fiscal, ace2three.com EBITDA stood at around Rs 100 crore.

Crude oil rises as OPEC agrees to cap production

Crude oil futures closed higher in the domestic market on Wednesday following news that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries had agreed on the need to cap crude production.

Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and other big oil producers held discussions Wednesday on the sidelines of an energy forum in Algeria on ways to help stabilize the oil market.
