Indian Equity shares erased their initial gains on heavy selling banking, FMCG, infrastructure and power sector stocks amid mixed Asian cues.
The 30-share BSE index Sensex was lower by 112.32 points or 0.38 per cent at 29,207.94 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was trading down by 40.4 points or 0.46 per cent at 8,828.70.
Among BSE sectoral indices, banking index fell the most by 1.19 per cent, followed by FMCG 1.17 per cent, infrastructure 0.76 per cent and power 0.71 per cent. On ther other hand, IT index was up 0.61 per cent, consumer durables 0.55 per cent, capital goods 0.42 per cent and TECK 0.34 per cent.
Major Sensex gainers were Infosys 1.32%, Tata Steel 1.27%, Maruti 0.83%, BHEL 0.73% and TCS 0.51%, while the top five losers were ICICI Bank 2.19%, Tata Power 2.09%, Bajaj Auto 1.81%, ITC 1.75% and NTPC 1.71%.
Japan's Nikkei rose 0.6 per cent to heights last seen in 2000 helped by gains in financial and shipping companies.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was near flat with much of the region on holiday. Centres off include China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea.
